Tchaikovsky's Sérénade Mélancolique in B-Flat minor was composed in 1875, one year earlier than his famous Violin Concerto, and was dedicated to Leopold Auer, but this dedication was later withdrawn.

Tchaikovsky's Valse Scherzo Op.34 (also known as Waltz-Scherzo) was composed in 1877. It's a colorful and attractive show piece that is performed very often as a concert filler or a substitute for Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto.
