Prokofiev Symphony No.2 Op.40
$199.95 - $895.00
REPRINT SERIES
The text to both songs comes from one of Prokofiev's favorite poets, Konstantin Balmont. The two choruses in this set were entitled "The White Swan" and "The Wave." The former was premiered in 1910, with the composer conducting a student choir. He was displeased with the performance, citing the great vocal difficulties as a critically encumbering factor for the amateur singers. Shortly before he died, Prokofiev reconstructed "The White Swan" from voice parts which had turned up and it is this effort that is the only representation of the original that we have today.
